| The Neurodevelopmental Check-Up (NDCU) was compiled by the staff at Children's Therapy Center over 10 years ago. It was designed to be a screening tool; to assist others in determining if a child should be referred for an evaluation. It is a list of 66 questions that pediatric therapists often ask parents about their child. Any one of these behaviors, by itself, may be insignificant. But, if you answer yes to several of these questions, then it maybe wise to seek an evaluation of your child. Only an evaluation that includes a detailed history plus specific testing can determine if your child needs Occupational or Physical Therapy. We have data on the NDCU for over 900 children between the ages of 2 and 14 years. 700 of these children were referred to our Center because parents, teachers or other professionals had concerns about the child. For those children, the average number of "yes" responses on the NDCU was 17. Another 200 NDCU's were completed on other children we had access to. Parents were not seeking evaluations of these children. These children had an average of 3 "yes" responses on the NDCU. The exception to this were siblings of children we were treating. The average number of "yes" responses on their NDCU was 5. Here is a link to the form! We hope you find it useful. The Neurodevelopmental Check-up. |
