Bloomin' Babes
Helping "at risk" babies blossom into resilient, successful children!
"If children can't learn, can't
develop appropriately,
then it's going to interfere with
their whole life. Clearly it is a
crisis."
Surgeon General David Satcher
"17% of children under the
age of 18 are affected by a
developmental, behavioral, or

learning disability.  Since birth to
three is a critical time in a child
's
development, a delay in diagnosis
may compromise a child
's
chances for success."

If you have concerns about your baby, talk to your
doctor and then consider additional evaluations.
How can you determine if your baby is
"at risk"?

Start by looking at how your baby
functions in the following areas:

Emotions
- does your baby exhibit a wealth
of emotions, such as joy, frustration, fear,

anger?
Social skills - does your baby enjoy and seek
interactions with others?
Self regulation - does your baby have some
ability to self calm or self soothe?
Play - does your baby appropriately play with
a variety of toys?
Eating and sleeping - does your baby eat
and sleep without any significant problems
or distress?
Movement - does your baby seem to have
good coordination and move as you would
expect for his age?
Sensory processing - does your baby over or
under react to sights, sounds, touch,
movement, or pain?
Communication - does your baby successfully
communicate his needs and seem to
understand you by using vocalizations,
words, or gestures?
